A person wearing the cream and green Places Moments logo baseball cap by the water.

The message I get more than any other is some version of "I want one, I just can't pick." So here is the short answer before anything else: get the Dirty Martini baseball cap in Indian Creek Red. It is the design our customers order more than any other, the burgundy reads closer to a neutral in person than it does on a screen, and it costs $65, which is what every cap we make costs. You are not paying a premium for the popular one.

If that one is wrong for you, the rest of this is how I would talk you through it in person. A few things are true of everything in the store, and knowing them up front removes most of the fake decisions. Every cap is $65. Every cap is one size with an adjustable snapback. Every cap has a soft full-panel cotton body, a structured crown, and a curved brim, with the Crown Gate logo at the back. So the only real questions left are shape, design, color, and whether it will sit on your head properly.

Baseball cap or mesh-back trucker?

The baseball cap is cotton all the way around. It wears like a normal cap in any weather, and it is the version I would buy if I were only ever going to own one.

The trucker is the same front construction with a double-knit mesh back. That mesh is the part worth pointing out: it is tighter and cleaner than the loose netting you get on a standard trucker, so it breathes without looking like a giveaway hat from a hardware store. Get the trucker if you live somewhere hot, if you are outside for hours at a stretch, or if you simply like how a trucker sits higher and flatter on the head. The Côte trucker in Indie Blue is the one I hand people who say they want a trucker but do not want to look like they are advertising something.

One thing that will make the decision for some of you: every cap we released this season is a baseball cap. If a trucker is non-negotiable, you are choosing among the four original designs, and that is a perfectly good place to be.

Which design should I actually get?

Four designs have been with us since the beginning, each one in a baseball cap and a trucker. Here is the honest read on each, including who it is not for.

  • Dirty Martini. Two martini glasses with olives on picks, over red roses, on a near-black ground, which puts it somewhere between a bar and a night out. The side lettering says Don't Take It Personally. Baseball cap in Indian Creek Red, a deep burgundy, and the trucker in Night Cap Black. This is the one people buy most, and it has driven more orders for us than anything else we have made.
  • Nixon. Miami, where the skyline, the sea and the sunlight all land in the same frame. Only The Necessities on the side. Baseball in Nacional Blue, a true royal blue, and the trucker in Intrepid Black. The royal is the loudest color in the store, so this one gets noticed whether or not you wanted it to.
  • Côte. A Mediterranean harbor. I'll Make Waves When I Arrive. Baseball cap in Isla Crema, an off-white, and the trucker in Indie Blue, a deep navy. The off-white photographs beautifully and also asks the most of you, because a cream crown shows a mark from a car door or a restaurant table.
  • Ovals. The view out an oval airplane window on a work trip, with sea and coastline past the wing. I'll Still Be Late. Baseball in Forte Green, a proper forest green, and the trucker with a chestnut front over tonal brown mesh we call Santiago Clay. This is the quiet one of the four, the one that goes with the most and argues with the least.

If you want a cap people comment on, the Dirty Martini and the Nixon baseball cap do that work. If you want a cap that just sits in an outfit without announcing anything, the Ovals green or the Côte off-white are the two to look at.

What about the newer ones?

Four new designs landed this season, all of them baseball caps at $65, and the fourth one gets its own section below. The Paso Fino is tan cotton with royal blue details, a rider on a Paso Fino horse in the patch, embroidered stars across the crown, and a small Colombian flag at the back. There is an Ovals in Cream, which puts the Ovals design in the Côte's exact Isla Crema off-white with the details in Forte Green, and a Dirty Martini in a winter branch camo, bare branches over grey and near-black. The camo is a genuinely different cap from the burgundy one, so give it a look even if you already decided the Dirty Martini was not for you.

Do the colors matter more than the design?

More than most people expect, yes. The design is what makes you want the cap in the first place, but the color is what quietly determines how many mornings it comes off the shelf.

The near-blacks (Night Cap Black, Intrepid Black) and the new camo are the ones that hide a day of wear and go with the most clothes. Forte Green and Indian Creek Red are the two people underrate on a screen and then wear constantly, because a deep green and a deep burgundy both behave like neutrals once they are on your head. Nacional Blue is the boldest and it wants to be the brightest thing you have on. Isla Crema off-white looks the best in a photo and needs a little care in real life.

My rule for anyone buying their first one is boring and it works: look in your closet, find the color that shows up most, and buy the cap that sits next to it. You can get adventurous on the second one.

What if I don't want a picture on my head?

That is a fair thing to want, and it is what the newest caps are for. The Logo Baseball Cap is the first cap we have made with no picture patch on the front. It is a cream cotton crown with a colored brim, the top button and the panel eyelets picked out in the brim color, and the Places Moments logo on the front in black. Three colorways: Cream and Green, Cream and Light Blue, Cream and Purple. The Logo caps are also the only ones with no phrase on the side.

These are the quietest thing we sell, and I would point you here if you like how the caps are built but the artwork feels like more than you want to wear. The two-tone crown and brim give you something to look at without a scene on the front, so they work with a plain shirt and not much else going on.

Will it actually fit me?

Every cap is one size with an adjustable snapback, and I want to be straight about what that means, because "one size" is a phrase brands hide behind. Our 2025 production run fits about 58 cm, which is roughly a 7 1/4 in fitted terms. The 2026 run is about a centimeter bigger, closer to 59 cm. Both adjust down comfortably from there.

The practical version: if you normally buy a fitted around 7 1/4 or below, anything in the store fits you with room to spare. If you are usually at 7 3/8 or above, the newer caps are the safer buy, and you will be wearing the snapback close to its widest setting on the older ones. If your head is genuinely large, I would rather tell you that now than have you send a cap back.

What you are getting for $65, regardless of which one you pick

The front patch starts as a hand-painted oil painting of a real moment. That painting is dye-infused into the patch fabric, then given a 2D embroidered satin-stitch contour and sewn onto the cap. The useful thing about the dye living inside the fabric rather than sitting on top of it is that it will not crack or peel the way a surface graphic on a cheap cap does after a summer. The lettering on the side is raised rubber, moulded so it stands off the panel and catches light.

All of that is the same across the line, which is why I keep steering this conversation back to design and color. Nothing in the store is built better than anything else in the store, so the pick comes down to which patch you want to see in the mirror.

Still stuck?

Buy the Dirty Martini baseball cap. If you have read this far and something else kept pulling your eye back, buy that instead, because the thing you keep returning to on a product page is usually the thing you will wear. If you are buying it as a gift and you do not know the person's taste well, go baseball cap over trucker and go Dirty Martini or Ovals, since those two are the hardest to get wrong.

Everything is in stock at $65 right now, which is not always true around here. You can see the whole lineup side by side in the baseball cap collection, and the truckers sit one click away from there.
